Feeding the Hungry

Melaleuca Fills Food Pantries, Provides Meals for Families in Need

For people facing poverty and other unfortunate life circumstances, an empty stomach is a very real, very frightening and all-too-common occurrence. One in six children in America may not know where they will get their next meal, while one in four children around the world suffer from malnutrition. To those who worry about feeding themselves and their loved ones, having something to eat is an answered prayer.

To ease the suffering caused by hunger, Melaleuca has supported Feeding America, the Second Harvest Food Bank, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross, United Way and several other non-profit organizations to feed hundreds of thousands of families in need.

Almost 30 years ago, the Boy Scouts of America sat down with Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot to discuss the creation of a regional Scouting for Food drive. The meeting closed with a handshake—and Frank’s promise that Melaleuca would support this important cause. As the food drive’s primary sponsor, Melaleuca has continued to honor that pledge for nearly three decades. It has grown into the region’s largest food drive. With our help, the Boy Scouts have collected more than 3,000 tons of food for disadvantaged families.

Melaleuca has donated food, money and other resources to charitable organizations that put on community food drives, assemble meal baskets, stock shelves with non-perishable items and provide groceries to the hungry.

Over the years, our 4,300 employees around the world have carried on a tradition of making generous food donations for families struggling to make ends meet.

With the help of our employees and Preferred Members, Melaleuca will continue its commitment to provide meals for families in need. As we collect, buy and donate food to help disadvantaged families, our hope is that the day will soon come when no one goes hungry again.

“Melaleuca has provided an outstanding example of community service. Their sponsorship has allowed Scouting for Food to make a difference in many lives.”

— Clarke Farrer, CEO, Boy Scouts of America Grand Teton Council
